Getting your show on Spotify or on any platform/directory is an important step so your show can get to your intended audience. And like what I said in my previous post why you need to submit your podcast to Spotify the sheer number of users that Spotify has, it's a number you really can't ignore. So here's the full step by step process on how to submit your podcast to Spotify — and once you're done, here's the same process for Apple Podcasts.
Step 1: Create a Spotify for Creators account
Go to Spotify for Creators (formerly Spotify for Podcasters) and sign up, or log in with an existing Spotify account.
Step 2: Add your show
- If your podcast is already hosted on Spotify's own hosting, you can search for it directly.

- If it's hosted elsewhere, choose “I have a podcast hosted somewhere else” and paste in your RSS feed URL — you'll find this in your hosting platform's dashboard.

Step 3: Verify ownership
Spotify sends a verification code to the email associated with your RSS feed, or asks you to add a short code to your feed's description temporarily. Confirm ownership and move on.
Step 4: Fill in your show details
Add or confirm your category, language, and country. Most of this pulls automatically from your RSS feed, but double-check it — inaccurate metadata is one of the more common reasons submissions get flagged for review.
Step 5: Submit and wait for approval
Most shows are approved within a few hours to a couple of days. Once approved, every new episode you publish through your host will automatically show up on Spotify — no need to resubmit each time.
Common reasons submissions get delayed
- Cover art that doesn't meet size requirements (Spotify wants a minimum of 1400x1400px, up to 3000x3000px, JPEG or PNG)
- Missing or incomplete episode descriptions
- Explicit content not marked correctly
- RSS feed errors — usually a hosting platform issue, worth checking your feed validates cleanly
After you're live
Claim your show inside Spotify for Creators (if you haven't already) to unlock listener analytics — downloads, audience demographics, episode performance. This is separate from just being listed, so don't skip it.
Next: submit to Apple Podcasts the same way.
If you're setting all of this up at the same time as editing, writing show notes, and figuring out Apple Podcasts too, it adds up fast. We handle scheduled publishing across every major platform as part of our full production service, so submission and distribution are one less thing on your list.
